Elizabeth Caperton-Halvorson has lived in the Minneapolis area for 30 years. Raised in Virginia, her experience as a newcomer began with her marriage to a Minnesotan--and nearly ended when she realized she had worn her winter coat through the entire summer the first year she lived in the Twin Cities. She and her family soon discovered the exhilaration of Minnesota skiing and the joy of sailing Lake Minnetonka by moonlight, and she now looks forward to the cycle of the seasons. My daughter & her husband were preparing to move to Minneapolis - got them a copy. Also got one for myself to enjoy their experience vicariously. They used it to set up and are using it still to settle in as they have accomplished their move. The resources & references are great - the neighborhood descriptions very useful. It is nicely written. Got so much out of it, I bought a more touristy book for myself and am planning to visit sooner than planned. (yes, they invited me :)
Although I have not made the move yet, this guide has been very thorough and informative during my planning stages. I've enjoyed finding out about each neighborhood and the different parts of the Metropolitan area. It is helping me plan the preparatory trips prior to the move, and I think it will be very useful for getting to know the Twin Cities after the move. It is fairly up to date, but as with every guide, there will probably be a newer version coming out next year. Fortunately, I didn't have to wait. This one is very good.
Very helpful. I read this before the move (6 months ago). I have since reread parts as needed. So helpful in choosing a neighborhood, and helping me with the initial move. I am originally from Ohio, and this book made the move easier, and much smoother.
