This is more of a "Coffee Table" book than a "Take Along" book especially if you are travelling Route 66 on a motorcycle. If you are driving a car and you have a 2nd person as a "navigator" who can help you find information as you go, this book would be ideal to have on the seat beside you.I traveled Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica last summer by motorcycle and discovered a number of places/things I wanted to see had either gone out of existence or burned down or the collection of artifacts had been sold or moved, etc., between the time my reference books had been published and the Summer of 2013. This book is current as of 2011. It does contain much information about the History of 66 which gives the reader a much better understanding of what happened on (and what happened to) the places and people associated with this historic highway. It also contains much information about present day 66. Since I will be travelling from East to West on 66 again during Summer 2014, I would have preferred the Encyclopedia to be laid out that way; starting with Illinois and ending in California.

A great Route 66 reference book! Originally I checked this out at my local library but soon found that I had to own a copy. This book is chocked full of great little-known "Mother Road" information. Makes for a fun reference book to pick up and read a few pages at a time. Someday I hope to drive the route 66 from Chicago to LA -- and this book will be my trusty companion to help make sure I see many of the off-the-beaten path things to be seen along the way!

I love the bright colorful images in the Route 66 Encyclopedia, its6 been a great tool for planning and can't wait to use it on our trip!

What a wonderful book. As a kid I remember traveling on 66 and is now a part of my collection on Rout 66. Great references and covers so much more than I expected. Great pic, and is sectioned by city. This makes it so easy to use, whether your going the entire length of The rout or certain towns.

I purchased this for my Dad for his 71st birthday, and he loved it! He will not stop talking about it. He enjoyed the pictures and respects all the work it took to create this book.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the mother road.This book features all kinds of pictures and information about Route 66 for anyone interested in traveling the famed highway.

Very informative book, difficult to travel and use effectively. There are better products on the market.
